Talianske mesto Bologna schválilo nový ekorozpočet

The Council of the City of Bologna, Italy, has approved its new 2006 ecoBUDGET Master Budget on 17 July 2006.

For the fourth period now, the ecoBUDGET presents politically agreed targets for quality and consumption of Bologna's environmental resources.

Bologna's 2006 Master Budget results from a process of broad political participation involving the nine city-districts and in particular their presidents in the target-setting process.

This participatory process has lead to commitment by Bologna to ambitious targets for local environmental sustainability.

For the first time the Master Budget includes the resource "water" with the focus being "loss of water from the water grid".

Environmentally, this represents Bologna's wish to be careful with environmental resources. Economically, the sense is in reducing costs for water supply. Further measures focus on Bologna's ambitous climate stability targets, in particular new thermal systems and urban district heatings.

The successful efforts in renewable energy production are continued through new renewable energy installations (from 120.674 MWh of 2004 to 224.805 MWh of 2009). Still, the resource air quality and peace & quiet (silence) are high on the political agenda, both closely linked to mobility and traffic issues.

As world-wide innovation, Bologna's 2006 Master Budget also includes 'Mayoral targets'. These mid-term targets integrate Bologna's ecoBUDGET into the political master plan of the current Lord-Mayor Sergio Cofferati and correspond to his electoral period (until 2009).

In addition to strategic long-term targets for a period of about 15 years and annual operational short-term targets, the mid-term perspective marks the third milestone for continuous improvements of Bolgona's performance for environmental sustainability.
